Facing The Japan Giant Robot

Labels: ,

Hajime Sakamoto, president of the Osaka-based Hajime Research Institute latest project, already underway, is a mobile 13-foot robot with a cockpit within for a human pilot. In all seriousness, though, this is just the skeleton for a Gundam suit that should even have a cockpit when
finished.

Robots are cool and rather fascinating not because they tend to do anything particularly mind-blowing yet, but because they hint at a future where we have robots that will do cool and really useful stuff for us on a daily basis. Of course, you might be asking yourself the question, "Why?" For Hajime, part of the motivation is moving robot innovation forward and the other is serving its customers. According to Hajime's Web site, the institute's philosophy is "to cheer people by dream power.
We provide a dream to people through robotic technology."As the project continues, Sakamoto will be providing updates on the company's official blog site, on its Facebook page, and also via periodic YouTube videos.

So far they've completed one of the robot's legs, but that's a far cry from a fully functional humanoid. Needless to say, the 13-foot version would be the tallest humanoid out there. It seems a bit too ambitious, but he is apparently known for building impressively large machines. The company is currently looking for sponsors to jump in and help with the project.
