Spent time in Kowloon Walled City

Labels: ,

A few people who spent time in Kowloon Walled City have written accounts of their experiences. Because of the deal between China and Great Britain at the time, British police had no power within the Kowloon city walls. But the walled city was more than a physical conglomeration of buildings and people,
it was an inadvertent symbol of the long struggle between China and Hong Kong, ruled by neither.

The design of the park was inspired by the Jiangnan garden style of the early Qing Dynasty. Construction began in May 1994, with a work-force of skilled artisans from the Mainland being employed to ensure accurate reproduction of the classical concept. It had 161 unregulated doctors and dentists along with food producers from whole pig roasters to the suppliers of most of Hong Kong’s fish balls.
