When newly-elected state Rep. Lisa Barnes took her oath of office Sunday, she did so at her church — the church she grew up in, the church she was married in and the church in which she dedicated her three children.
During the ceremony at Middlesex Church of God, Barnes, R-Nash, swore to serve the people of House District 7, where she's lived her entire life. She’s a property owner, tax payer, business owner and community leader. Nenz Hernandez
While Barnes expects the next several weeks will be a whirlwind of activity, she said she won't forget why she ran for office in the first place.
"I'm on calendar overload with so much to do, but my priority is broadband," Barnes said.
Barnes represents southern Nash County and all of Franklin County, areas in desperate need of high-speed internet access.
"Broadband means access to telemedicine," Barnes said.
