Could cat choking

Labels: ,

Choking can be life threatening for your cat. The harder a choking cat tries to breathe, the more panicky he or she can become. A cat owner's goal is to open the airway without being bitten. If you are uncertain whether your cat is choking, some signs to look for include the cat pawing at his or her mouth, a pale or blue cat tongue, obvious distress, and unconsciousness.

Sit under a good light source and gently open your cat’s mouth. A good look may reveal the cause of the problem. It is possible to remove some foreign bodies using tweezers. Others will require the cat to be under general anesthesia-which requires a trip to the veterinarian. Foreign bodies left in place for a day or longer may cause infection. A broad-spectrum antibiotic is recommended for one week. Sandrine Alamaison

COW TIPPING

Labels: ,

Yes, I know, I'm as shocked as you are - I feel like my whole life has been a lie. Also I'd heard that cow tipping is specifically an expellable offense here at UC Davis, from a source I thought was reliable (maybe my official UC Davis tour as a prospective student four years ago?) - now I want to confirm whether or not this rule is true in light of the impossibility of its realisation. (I think I'm gonna email the chancellor on this) —Kris Fricke

Cow-tipping is widely considered uncool in this town. It is detrimental to the cows and to the humans involved. I think my very first night in the dorms as a freshman, someone asked the RA about how prevalent cow-tipping was here, and the gave them a firm admonishment. I have never heard of it happening or considered doing it since then. —KayRide

I think Cow Tipping being an urban legend is an urban legend. As for it being cause for expulsion at Davis, I hear so is believing that the word 'gulliable' is in the dictionary. - JonerikStorm

Chickens Poultry farming

Labels: ,

More than 50 billion chickens are reared annually as a source of food, for both their meat and their eggs.

The vast majority of poultry are raised using intensive farming techniques. According to the Worldwatch Institute, 74 percent of the world's poultry meat, and 68 percent of eggs are produced this way. One alternative to intensive poultry farming is free range farming.

Friction between these two main methods has led to long term issues of ethical consumerism. Opponents of intensive farming argue that it harms the environment, creates human health risks and is inhumane. Advocates of intensive farming say that their highly efficient systems save land and food resources due to increased productivity, stating that the animals are looked after in state-of-the-art environmentally controlled facilities.

In part due to the conditions on intensive poultry farms and recent recalls of large quantities of eggs, there is a growing movement for small scale micro-flocks or 'backyard chickens'. This involves keeping small numbers of hens (usually no more than a dozen), in suburban or urban residential areas to control bugs, utilize chicken waste as fertilizer in small gardens, and of course for the high-quality eggs and meat that are produced.

Aythya valisineria TAXONOMY

Labels: ,

TAXONOMY : The currently recognized scientific name for the canvasback is Aythyavalisineria (Wilson). The Canvasback is somewhat uncommon in the Omaha area and is very seldom seen in the Great Marsh in the Forest. The best times to see it would be March and then in late October/early November.
Interestingly, canvasback hens sometimes also lay their eggs in other canvasback nests, a behaviour known as "egg dumping". This is possibly due to two reasons: (1) these eggs act as an "insurance policy" that at least one of the parasitic female's offspring manages to survive should she lose her own nest to predators and (2) more ducklings overall mean the host's offspring are less likely to be eaten by predators. This species has an extremely large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (Extent of Occurrence <20,000 km2 combined with a declining or fluctuating range size, habitat extent/quality, or population size and a small number of locations or severe fragmentation).

The dragon is one of the most important element in the life of the Chinese nation. It can be seen from the Chinese culture that is almost all related to animals of this legend. Conversely, researchers have long believed that the dragon is just a mirage creatures that are only present in classical legends. But a discovery in 1996 seemed to answer the doubts of experts. Large Horned snakes Found

New species of rattlesnakes and horned are found in regions of Tanzania. Type of snake that was found matildae Atheris named Tim Davenport, scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the team through the expedition to the region.

Atheris matildae known to be close relatives of Atheris cerathopora, horned serpents and venomous species which are found in the woods. Scientists predict that the horned snake Matilda separated into a new species since 2.2 million years ago.

One of the horned snake horned snake Matilda with forests is larger in size, about 64.3 cm. Another difference is the different colors, yellow and black alloys, and the style of typical scales in the head.

Davenport said, Atheris matildae habitat is very limited, only an area of 100 square km and has been degraded. Davenport said that the species should be included in the category of "Endangered" in the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Found in Tanzania, the specific location of the discovery of this snake species remain confidential. This is assembled with the magnitude of the threat to the survival of the species. Snakes with eksotismenya often hunted for their skin or used as pets.

"Global wildlife trade is enormous, and the significance of the illegal trade in amphibians and reptiles are wild, to pets. Snakes are very popular and growing interest in new types of snakes that high," said Davenport sperti quoted Mongabay, Thursday (12/15/ 2011).

To maintain the continuity of the horned snake species Matilda, now scientists are taking 4 males, 5 females and 2 pups from Atheris matildae to bred. The effort is expected to be a guarantee of the existence of horned snakes Matilda.

"We plan to provide the first dozen snakes for free in order to give supply to the captive market of this new species. The goal is to prevent the collection of wild catches, lower prices and encourage responsible breeding by experts from various countries who most want it," said Davenport .

The Species Frogs Eat Ants Only

Labels: ,

Dr. Conrad Hoskin of the Australian National University (ANU) and Kieran Aland from the Queensland Museum managed to find two species of frog rock. Two species of frogs are named Toad Rock Katini (Cophixalus kulakula) and hooded Gold Rock Frogs (Cophixalus pakayakulangun).

Name two species, according to Hoskin, derived from Kuuku Ya'u, the local language communities where frogs were found. Hoskin also said that the two frog species are adapted to the environment rocks in tropical rain forests.

"Frogs have long arms, fingers are slender and triangular-shaped finger pads and large enough. These properties make the frog is able to climb among the maze of rocks, "Hoskin said as quoted by Physorg.

"They are only found in rocks and never found in the surrounding environment. Although they are very localized, they are in abundance when encountered. You can sit at the start of the dark and see these amazing frogs emerge from the rocks, "Hoskin added.

Both of these frog species are found in two regions of Cape York Peninsula berbveda. According to Hoskin, not many species can be found in a pile of rocks. In addition to frog rock, there are only a few species of lizards, insects and spiders can be found.

"Two of these species generally feed on ants. They lay eggs on land and berudunya stage takes place in the egg. Small frogs then hatch before finally going into forest areas or rocks, "said Hoskin.

Compared sekerabat frogs, two species is unique because the size is big enough. Other sekerabat rock frog only had a length of 2 cm. Two frog species is also just come out to the rock surfaces when there is rain in the wet summer.

To find these two frog species, scientists need to explore in a wet summer and investigating every rock. According to Hoskin, the proudest of the invention is still a new species in science that can be found in developed countries such as Australia.
